Steve Jobs often emphasized that creativity is connecting things, and scientists said that a creative personality is a mixture of diverse experiences and interests, and so is Yousef Kabli! He is, in short, a Saudi student from Jeddah, about to graduate from high school. His life and interests are an exciting mixture of everything!
The story of the tools hidden in the water pot!
Youssef attributes his diverse interests to his parents’ upbringing. They encouraged him to ask about everything , try everything, and read about everything! Driven by this curiosity, he disassembled his first electronic game before entering school. When he entered school, his love of discovery prompted him to put every game he disassembled back together. Youssef’s obsession with experimentation and discovery was not limited to breaking his toys. As a child, he put a set of tools in a bowl of water and hid them inside his closet to see what would happen to them after several weeks!
His obsession with experimentation led him to participate in all school activities. He learned drawing and design, loved Arabic calligraphy and reading, wrote poetry and short stories, and excelled in recitation! He won first place in the Arabic calligraphy competition at the regional level, and the silver level in the creative expression competition at the city level! And the bronze medal in karate at the school level! He was classified as a gifted student by the Department of Gifted Students in Jeddah, affiliated with the Ministry of Education. From here, he had the opportunity to participate in many courses and forums that focused on developing thinking abilities and life skills, which refined his personality and brought about a qualitative shift in his way of thinking.
It started with innovation!
In middle school, Yousef turned his mind towards innovation, designing a model for a lighting project based on photovoltaic power. In high school, Yousef was nominated to be one of the students of the Mawhiba Schools Partnership Initiative, and he was also one of the participants in the local Mawhiba Summer Program held at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, where he learned the basics of scientific research and designed the Safe Bump project with a group of his colleagues.
Youssef Kabli's projects:
Photovoltaic lighting project:
Youssef completed this project while studying in middle school, inspired by the idea of the project after contemplating the lampposts one morning, and how to utilize their exposure to the sun throughout the day, so that they are able to light themselves at night by taking advantage of solar energy.
It took several days to work on the model, and he was able to display it during the final ceremony of one of the summer gatherings for talents in Jeddah.
Inventing the safe kitchen:
Yousef completed this project in collaboration with a number of his colleagues during their participation in the local summer talent program at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Al-Khobar. The idea of the project focuses on creating a speed bump that harms reckless drivers who drive at high speeds, and does not harm those who adhere to the legal speed limit, instead of the current speed bumps that harm everyone.
